Robotic Additive Manufacturing - Ceramic
This project was my introduction to robotic fabrication and ultimately is what inspired my PhD studies. Using Rhino and Grasshopper, scripts were generated that could program the tool path of a KUKA KR 10 R1100 sixx Robotic Arm. Affixed to the end of the arm is a PVC tube filled with clay. The clay is forced out of the tube via air pressure resulting in a 3D printed object. The robots are also used with hot wire cutters to cut foam upon which the clay was later printed. The results were an exploration into cantilevered cylindrical walls and a hypothetical wall tile.
